Reverend Larry D. McCutcheon to be the featured speaker for Âé¶¹´«Ã½ University's Spring 2025 Baccalaureate Service

Reverend Larry D. McCutcheon, interim chaplain at Âé¶¹´«Ã½ University, will be the featured speaker for the Spring 2025 Baccalaureate Service on Friday, May 9, 6 p.m. at the James and Dorothy Z. Elmore Chapel.
The Baccalaureate Service will honor, acknowledge, and celebrate the achievements of the Spring Class of 2025 with speeches, music, religious readings, and prayers.
McCutcheon is a “Man of God” who continues to serve as a “Minister of the People, For the People, and By the People.” A spiritual and civic leader, he preaches the Gospel and “Walks the Walk” throughout various sectors of the community in an extraordinary way, touching the lives of so many with his unique ability to reach all people from all walks of life.
McCutcheon is a native of Lake City, S.C., and the son of the late Mr. Samuel D. and Mrs. Emma Cooper McCutcheon. He grew up in Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church in Lake City.
McCutcheon graduated from Carver High School in 1968. He earned his bachelor’s degree in religion and philosophy in 1972 at Âé¶¹´«Ã½ University. He received the Master of Divinity in 1976 from The Interdenominational Theological Center, and he further studied towards a Doctor of Ministry at Emory University.
For eleven years, he served as pastor of Trinity UMC in Orangeburg. He has also served as District Superintendent of the Charleston District and as pastor of Cumberland United Methodist Church in Florence, S.C.
Mt. Carmel, Âé¶¹´«Ã½, United Methodist churches in Bamberg, and the Williamston Charge in Williamston, S.C. For ten years, he served as director of the Orangeburg Wesley Foundation, where he raised funds to build structures for students at S.C. State University and Âé¶¹´«Ã½ University. During that time, he served as part-time chaplain at Âé¶¹´«Ã½.
